Madrid: A dynamic hub of heritage and modern innovation. The first UCCB of 2026 travels to Madrid, exploring the vibrant fusion of history and contemporary life in Spain’s capital.
Join us for the Urban Creative City-break experience in Madrid, where past and future coexist in a vibrant urban tapestry.
We have put together a lively and intense city-break — as we would describe the Spanish capital — that combines hospitality, urban regeneration projects and new hybrid spaces combining culture, work and leisure.
Here are some of the places that will be central to the journey:
/ Experience the neighbourhood
We will be guided on a tour of Bastardo Hostel, a boutique hostel between Malasaña and Chueca designed as a true cultural laboratory: terraces, events and common areas make it a privileged observatory on the most vibrant side of Madrid. We will visit News&Coffee, a former newsstand converted into a specialty coffee kiosk and independent magazine shop: a small urban stronghold where the ritual of coffee meets the culture of print media.
/ Big names and new experimenters
With Estudio Herreros, a globally active practice known for cultural projects that focus on contemporary urban transformation, we discover Juan Herreros’ critical and design vision. We will then shift gears with ENORME Studio, a young firm that experiments with new uses of public space through bold installations and micro-architectures.
We will also visit BURR, a studio that combines a lucid and ironic design approach with a raw space for installations and cultural events, offering a glimpse into the new generation of Madrid architects.
/ Colour, identity and social impact
Teresa and Francesca Sapey will open the doors of Teresa Sapey + Partners to show us how design can transform car parks and passageways into powerful devices of urban identity. We will also explore the vision of Proyectos Conscientes, the company founded by Felipe Turell that is redefining hospitality by combining gastronomy and social impact. Through projects such as MO de Movimiento and Spacio Tramo, we will understand how an ‘enlightened’ business model can generate value for the community through urban regeneration.
/ Culture and widespread innovation
With La Fábrica and the Madrid Design Festival we will enter the heart of the city’s cultural production, meeting those who design events capable of redefining Madrid’s public image. We will discover the energy of Cocota Studio, a small creative agency that works with cultural institutions, transforming its space into a laboratory of ideas, and we will experience the unconventional approach of Zuloark, between urban walks and complex spaces where architecture and activism meet. Finally, Sala Equis will welcome us to a former porn cinema transformed into a cultural hub, a synthesis of memory and new nightlife.
